AT-KABUL: The Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) on Wednesday said that it is busy in drafting policies to empower women economically and address all outstanding challenges in this regard.
Acting Minister of Women’s Affairs, Saeeda Muzhgan Mustafawi, said the government directed the women ministry to finalize the draft within next six months. However, she did not elaborate that what kind of facilities would be provided to women entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the three-day trade fair where businesswomen displayed handmade products, she said that in addition to the drafting of a policy to empower women economically, the ministry would also device a five-year strategy to reduce poverty.
The exhibition was held in a small hall, once a cinema.
“Only the women’s affairs ministry cannot resolve all the problems. Therefore, other relevant organizations shall also take measures and lend cooperation to the ministry,” she requested.
The acting minister further said that women’s empowerment is directly related to violence. If women had access to economic opportunities and had sound financial resources then the cases of violence would decrease ultimately, she added.
Inaccessibility to markets and loan facilities are the major problems faced by women entrepreneurs, Mustafawi said.
She said that short term exhibitions would not meet expectations of businesswomen, but the government should take concrete steps aimed to enable women entrepreneurs to access special markets.
