AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The national soccer team on Sunday kicked off their training sessions in Iran to prepare for its first match against Syria in 2018 World Cup Qualifier series which will be held on Thursday.
According to the national team’s coach, Slaven Skeledzic, supporting technical skills of the players is his top priority in order to prepare the squad to win against Syria.
The national team arrived Iran last week, after their friendly soccer matches against Laos and Bangladesh. The soccer players received red-carpet welcome by Afghan refugees in Mashhad Airport in Iran.
Some of the national players tweeted and shared their photos on social media where they praised the warm welcome by Afghan refugees in Iran.
Assistant manager of the national squad, Ali Askar Lali, said that the team’s goalkeeper, Mansur Faqiryar, will play against Syria as he has recovered from an injury during training.
The Afghan squad is placed in group E and will face Japan, Syria, Singapore and Cambodia in 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.
