KABUL: Former Afghan Ambassador to Islamabad, Omar Zakhilwal asks those involved in the peace efforts to avoid offering sensational messages, adding that the value of peace was much higher than power, position and personal interests.
He emphasized that the red lines over the peace efforts should not begin before the peace negotiations and that the process should be completely “intra-Afghan”.
Zakhilwal went on to say on Friday that Afghanistan’s problems have regional dimensions, arguing that peace would not come to the country unless the regional dimensions are met even if the foreign troops leave Afghanistan.
The former diplomat also emphasized on the maintaining of achievements gained in the past 18 years during the talks with Taliban.
He called on the government and Taliban to accept each other and sit behind negotiating table to put an end to the longtime war.
Jawed Ludin, former deputy foreign minister, also said that the regional countries should guarantee for peace and security in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers allege that Taliban pay no respect to democracy and women’s rights in Afghanistan. They emphasized that women’s rights and democracy should be preserved in the peace negotiations as two important achievements of the past two decades.
The High Peace Council says that direct negotiations between government and Taliban would begin in a few months.
